From our research

What this interview looks like

Most private companies in India hire in three to five rounds, usually spread over one to three weeks. A recruiter or HR screen checks your background, notice period, expected pay and reason for moving.

One or two hiring-manager or technical rounds test whether you can do the work, through a problem, a case or a walk-through of something you built or ran. A behavioural round asks for specific past examples, best told in STAR order, and a final HR conversation covers fit, joining date and the offer.

Classic questions such as tell me about yourself, why are you leaving your current job and where do you see yourself in five years come up in almost every loop. Englio runs the whole loop as one 17-minute panel of AI interviewers, or a 12-minute one-on-one with the hiring manager, in English, Hindi, Hinglish and other Indian languages.

Every round follows up on what you actually said. Your report scores role knowledge, problem solving, communication and attitude, with STAR feedback on each behavioural answer.

Sample questions

Job interviews HR / Admin interview questions

Questions panels commonly ask in the Job interviews HR / Admin interview, with what a strong answer covers. Practise them aloud with the AI panel.

  1. Recruitment

You need to hire twenty customer support executives in Chennai within thirty days. Walk me through your plan.

    What a strong answer covers

Cover sourcing channels like job portals, referrals, walk-in drives and campus tie-ups, a funnel estimate of how many applicants you need, a fast screening process, offer-to-joining follow-up and dropout buffers. Mention tracking time to hire. Avoid relying on only one channel or ignoring offer dropouts.

  2. POSH

What is the role of the Internal Committee under the POSH Act, and how should a complaint be handled from start to finish?

    What a strong answer covers

Explain IC composition including an external member, timelines for filing and inquiry, confidentiality, fair hearing for both sides, a written report and recommended action, and protection from retaliation. Avoid treating POSH as only training or suggesting informal settlement under pressure.

  3. Statutory compliance

Explain PF and ESI to a new joiner who asks why money is being deducted from their salary.

    What a strong answer covers

Plain-language explanation: PF as retirement savings with employer contribution, withdrawal and transfer through UAN; ESI as health insurance for employees within the wage limit. Mention the benefits they get. Avoid quoting wrong percentages or thresholds; say you would confirm current figures.

  4. Grievances

An employee tells you in confidence that their manager is humiliating them in team meetings. What do you do?

    What a strong answer covers

Listen, document, explain what confidentiality you can and cannot promise, check the policy, gather facts fairly from both sides, and agree next steps and follow-up. Protect against retaliation. Avoid promising complete secrecy or immediately confronting the manager without facts.

  5. Policy rollout

The company is moving from flexible to fixed office timings and employees are unhappy. How would you roll this out?

    What a strong answer covers

Explain the business reason clearly, involve managers early, communicate in advance, give a transition period, address common concerns in an FAQ, and set up a channel for feedback and exceptions. Avoid announcing it by email overnight or dismissing genuine concerns as resistance.

  6. Vendor management

You manage housekeeping, security and cab vendors for a 300-seat office. How do you track whether they are performing?

    What a strong answer covers

Define SLAs and KPIs for each, such as cleanliness audits, guard attendance and cab on-time rates; run regular reviews, collect employee feedback, link payments to performance, and keep backup vendors. Avoid managing only by complaints or having no written service standards.

  7. Situational

A candidate accepted your offer and then stopped answering calls a week before the joining date. What do you do now, and what would you change?

    What a strong answer covers

Immediate steps: try different channels, ask the hiring manager to reach out, and activate backup candidates. Then fix the process with regular pre-joining engagement and an early warning. Avoid taking it personally or only blaming candidates without improving your process.

  8. Exit process

How do you calculate full and final settlement for an employee who has resigned after six years?

    What a strong answer covers

List the components: pending salary, leave encashment, gratuity since the employee has crossed five years, bonus if applicable, notice-period recovery or buyout, and deductions. Mention timelines and the relieving letter. Avoid forgetting gratuity eligibility or tax implications.

  9. Behavioural

Have you ever refused a director's request because it broke policy or labour law? Walk me through how you said no.

    What a strong answer covers

A STAR answer: the request, why it conflicted with policy or law, how you explained it respectfully, the alternative you offered, and the outcome. Show courage with tact. Avoid stories where you said no rudely or gave in quietly and regretted it later.
